golden hour
'golden hour' imbues all the summer sunshine of fresh love into its nostalgic verse.
In the autumn of 2021, I challenged myself to write a poem each day for a month. Some of them were angry, others trite, and still more were best left in the notebook which continues to gather dust on my shelves. But a few rang true, and said what I wanted to say. 'golden hour' is one of them. It reflected on a love that had recently bloomed in my life, and one which I was deeply in the grip of. It pulled together the images, the tastes, and the fragments of memory that characterised this person at that early stage. When I unearthed the poem recently, there was much of it that was just as sweet to recall as it was to live through.
We are still together, enjoying a life that feels like an extended golden hour.
