Sea Glass
"Sea Glass" describes an afternoon spent in good company and the contemplation of how we are all shaped by the challenges we face in this life.
"Sea Glass" is a vignette I wrote for my memoir, but ended up not including. It is a true story of an afternoon I spent with my friend Christine as we talked about how life's challenges can shape us and somehow turn us into more complete, complex, beautiful versions of ourselves.
On many different occasions in my life, I have felt discarded or thrown away by people, as if I were a piece of garbage. A family member, a friend, a boss. The analogy of sea glass, as described in this piece, spoke to me and to our intrinsic value as human beings.
